Leopard Sharks breeding in La Jolla, CA

Once a year, around August, the leopard sharks and Guitarfish come close to shore at one part of La Jolla Shores, just north of San Diego for a couple of weeks to breed. 50+ of these animals hang out in 3 – 6 feet of water making it easy to see them from the surface or snorkeling (if the visibility is good). And yes, even though they can get up to 5 ft long, they’re harmless.

Riviera Maya Aquatic Expedition

A full day of snorkeling in three unique environments. These smaller capacity tours have provided some of our best experiences. Small enough that we make friends with other vacationers, this Aquatic Expedition was a blast.

Visit Sarasota Florida: Paradise On The Gulf Coast

Located on the west coast of the Florida, the city of Sarasota is a popular vacation and retirement destination among beach lovers as well as those who enjoy all of the amenities that a large city has to offer. From world-class shopping opportunities, to botanical gardens, museums and galleries, there is something for everyone to enjoy when visiting Sarasota, Florida.

Situated to the north of Fort Myers and to the south of the Tampa Bay Area, Sarasota consists of several barrier islands located between the Gulf of Mexico and the bay. The numerous islands located around the city of Sarasota, including Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Lido Key, are known throughout the world for the quality of their white sand beaches. Thanks to all of the beautiful beaches located within and around the city of Sarasota, visitors have ample opportunity to engage in a variety of water sports. Popular water activities enjoyed by Sarasota visitors include kayaking, canoeing, sailing, boating, waterskiing, fishing, and parasailing. Snorkeling is also a popular activity, particularly at Siesta Key, which is thought to have the best snorkeling opportunities on Florida’s west coast.

The outdoor activities don’t end at the beach, however, as there are plenty of other activities for Sarasota visitors to enjoy. For those who enjoy golfing, there are literally dozens of golf courses available throughout the Sarasota area. The Sarasota Jungle Gardens, which is one of the oldest zoological gardens in the United States, is home to lovely gardens as well as exotic reptiles, birds and mammals, including a rare black jaguar. The “Kiddie Jungle” petting zoo within the Sarasota Jungle Gardens is a family favorite, as is the opportunity to hand feed the free roaming flamingos found on the Garden grounds.

Sarasota is home to numerous attractions that visitors enjoy visiting, including the internationally recognized Ringling Museum of Art. The museum isn’t the only cultural attraction left behind by John Ringling, however, as he also left behind a beautiful venetian style bayfront home as well as hotel after moving to Sarasota in 1910. Shoppers, on the other hand, will enjoy browsing through the more than 100 up-scale specialty stores and boutiques found in St. Armand’s Circle, which was also founded by John Ringling.

The Ringling Museum of Art isn’t the only museum that Sarasota has to offer. In fact, the city is well known for its numerous museums and other cultural opportunities. While the Ringling Museum of Art houses numerous examples of paintings from the baroque period, the Ringling Museum of Circus is home to the smallest big top circus display in the world. The Sarasota Classic Car Museum, which includes John Lennon’s Mercedes Roadster within its collection, is also located in this beautiful Florida city. In all, Sarasota boasts 30 art galleries as well as more than a dozen theaters to select from.

Once night falls, there are still several entertainment opportunities available in the city of Sarasota. The Gator Club, which is a two-story bar located in the downtown area, is a popular nightspot. Here, visitors can take in live entertainment, usually in the form of jazz or blues.

There are numerous real estate options for those exploring a permanent move, investment or vacation property. From a beach-front condo to a home in a golfing community, there are options to suit almost every lifestyle and price range.

Simply put, there is no end to the beauty and fun available in the city of Sarasota. Whether you are searching for a place to invest in real estate and retire, a nature lover or you are looking for opportunities to enjoy a variety of cultural attractions topped off by an eclectic nightlife, Sarasota is the place for you!

A Boater’s Guide To Marina Del Rey Yacht Clubs

Southern California is recognized worldwide as an excellent vacation spot with stunning beaches, breathtaking amusement parks, and unmatched cinema attractions — but boaters have unique needs and interests than the average landlubber. Those who enjoy the open water have a different perspective on things.

There are six different Marina del Rey yacht clubs, each with different amenities, options, and functions: The California Yacht Club, the Del Rey, The Marina Venice, Pacific Mariners, Santa Monica/Windjammers, and The South Coast Corinthian. To find the ideal club for you, start by assessing your interests and then looking for the Marina del Rey yacht clubs that caters to your interests.

Sporty Spirits

Several of Marina del Rey yacht clubs offer sports activities for those who like to get their blood flowing after a jaunt on the sea. If you enjoy paddle tennis and rowing, the California may be the right choice for you. If swimming, basketball, and table tennis are more your style, you’ll find facilities and other like-minded enthusiasts at the Del Rey.

Yacht Club Socialites

The boating community is known far and wide as a very outgoing social group and Marina del Rey yacht clubs are no exception. Boaters can enjoy social dinner parties with the Santa Monica/Windjammers, club meetings at the South Coast Corinthians, Monday night football with the Pacific Mariners, or an elegant cocktail in the private club at the California. For younger boaters, children’s programs are offered at both the Del Rey and California Clubs.

Boat Repair Do-It-Yourselfers

Some people get distinct pleasure and personal satisfaction from caring for their boat themselves. If you are a DIY boater, the Marina Venice Club and the Pacific Mariners Club are your best bet. For larger boats, the South Coast Corinthian has a one-ton hoist at their self-service facility with 24-hour access.

Boaters with Kids and Teens

Both the Del Rey and The California Yacht Club offer activities for juniors. Junior activities at CYC include rowing and sailing lessons while Del Rey offers full boating courses for juniors. Kids learn everything from water safety skills, to how to care for a boat, to earning a healthy respect for nature and the ocean. Daily activities include chalk talks, water drills, warm ups, and other activities that promote self-reliance, competence, and cooperation.

Sailing And Cruising Adventures

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of joining a yacht club is the opportunity to hit the seas with others that are just as obsessed with the water as you. All of the Marina del Rey yacht clubs organize social boating adventures — from sunset and dinner cruises, to dance cruises to snorkeling tours, fishing expeditions, and more.

What You’ll Need To Know About Marina del Rey Before Arriving

The Del Rey has over 300 slips, a hoist, and a Catalina Island facility. The Santa Monica/Windjammers offers a small boat hoist and 200 slips for your boating convenience.

Before rushing into unfamiliar waters, boaters are well advised to know that the average harbor depth in Marina del Rey is 15-21 feet, with significant low tides in the winter months. Be sure to consult local Tide Tables before entering the harbor. Shoaling conditions occur at the north and south jetties and boaters are warned to not pass inside marked buoys. In case of fog, a fog horn and radio beacon are found at the north jetty with 2 second blasts sounding every 20 seconds. Upon safe entry, there are 8 basins, lettered A through H, in the harbor.

The six Marina del Rey yacht clubs offer a variety of services, facilities, comforts, and activities to meet the needs of many different types of local boaters and visitors. When you choose a club that is in line with your interests, you’ll find more than just something to do on the weekends — you’ll find like-minded friends with which to have exciting adventures that bring enrichment and joy to your life.
